Wheat

Ritzville is a farming community of 1,705 citizens located in central eastern Washington, 60 miles southwest of Spokane. Its diverse business base serves a larger trade area with a population of about 4,400. Settled in the 1880s, Ritzville is the county seat of Adams County and has a rich pioneer heritage. In its early days, Ritzville bustled with industry, and soon became the largest inland exporter of wheat in the world. Changes in the agricultural industry, such as increased use of technology, farm consolidation and the Conservation Reserve Program, have impacted agriculture and the economics of rural communities like Ritzville.
